Purpose Driven Workplace

PLANO, Texas – October, 2009

Embracing environmentally conscious practices is the easy part, but it requires dedication to put your philosophy to work. A purpose-driven workplace is an integral part of being a stakeholder in a multi-tenant building, whether you have one office or several in the U.S. and abroad.

How can your offices reflect your commitment to the environment? First, think of the space as an extension of your home, where "green" habits are commonplace.

A Corporate Sustainability Strategy can point your company in the right direction and have a positive impact on the LEED application process, the environment and your employees. Whether it's part of your original construction or incorporating "green" practices into your corporate culture, a Corporate Sustainability Strategy shows where you are today, the cost-benefit ratio of change and best practices' solutions that are easily embraced by present and future employees. LEED-accredited professionals act as liaisons for the corporate greening process, start to finish.

It's all about choice – in your workplace and home. It's also about education, innovation, motivation and an investment strategy for long-term sustainability of your office environment. Initiatives can be as simple and low cost as putting two wastebaskets under every desk to facilitate recycling, reducing water usage and turning off lights. Or, it can be an up-front RFP requirement that only "green" practices and materials will be considered for new, existing and expansion space whether it's one 3,000 square-foot office or full floors in one or more locations.

Near term or long term, the choice is up to you. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. But as responsible corporate citizens, we can create purpose-driven work spaces through best practices and training to grow businesses, retain employees and protect our planet.
